About Hengehold Trucks
HENGEHOLD TRUCKS has the largest selection of pre-owned commercial vehicles in Northern California. We are family owned and operated and have been selling quality vehicles since 1948.
Each vehicle is carefully selected, thoroughly inspected, and sold with confidence. Customers include colleges and universities, government agencies, businesses small and large, and many individuals. About 50% of our sales are to previous customers.
HENGEHOLD TRUCKS has no commissioned salespeople. When you visit us, we will give you a list of our inventory and you may browse our selection of vehicles at your own pace. Our staff has expert knowledge of commercial vehicles and will be happy to assist you when you are ready.
HENGEHOLD TRUCKS also has a dedicated fleet of rental vehicles for your business or personal needs. Rent one of our trucks and return it here or rent a Penske truck one-way. We never overbook our vehicles, so when it comes time for your big job or move, we will have your vehicle ready.

Fred Hengehold
Fred Hengehold, co-founder of Hengehold Trucks, was born in 1903 and was raised in the small mining town of Globe, Arizona. At the age of nineteen, with a few dollars in his pocket and a sense of adventure, Fred and a couple of his friends hopped a freight train and headed for southern California to seek their fortunes.
In 1924, Fred took a job in Los Angeles with Mack Trucks, got transferred to San Francisco, and stayed on with Mack through World War II as their only salesman because nearly all of Mack’s production went to the war effort.
In 1948, he partnered with his brother, Val, and founded Hengehold Motor Company on El Camino Real in Palo Alto. An early customer was the newly incorporated Hewlett-Packard Company.
In 1965, the business moved to its present location on San Antonio Road in Palo Alto, and was eventually joined by sons Jim and David Hengehold. By the time Fred retired in 2003, at the age of 100, granddaughter Christine Hengehold Twichell and grandson Matt Hengehold had joined the business.
Today, Fred's legacy lives on at Hengehold Trucks where a team of dedicated employees provide quality trucks and excellent customer service.

Fred turned 100 in May 2003 and was still coming to work five days a week. The photos below show Fred and his 100th birthday celebration here at Hengehold Motor Co.
